Air Canada is Canada's flag carrier and biggest airline. It was established in 1937 and provides charter and scheduled air transport for passengers and cargo to a total of 182 destinations worldwide.

Air Canada is the 8th-largest passenger airline in the world by fleet size. The airline is a founding member of Star Alliance. The corporate headquarters of Air Canada are in Montreal, while the largest hub of the company is at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The regional service of the airline is Air Canada Express.

The national airline of Canada originated from the 1936 creation of Canadian federal government, Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA). In 1938 it started operating the first transcontinental flight routes and changed its name to Air Canada after approval by the government. Following the deregulation of Canadian airline market during the 1980s, Air Canada was privatized in 1988. On January 4, 2000 the company acquired their biggest rival, Canadian Airlines. However, the airline filed for bankruptcy protection in 2003 and the next year reorganized and started operation under holding company ACE Aviation Holdings.
