Airline Passengers Arrested for Carrying 5.75 kg Crystal Meth

Four airline passengers have been arrested at Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport (Pekanbaru, Riau) on Friday, December 1, for allegedly carrying 5.75 kg of crystal methamphetamine as they have been about to board their flight.

The 4 people, Galih Nurmantyo (Makassar, South Sulawesi), Slamet (Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi), Fahmi Rizki (Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi) and Muhammad Nursahlan (Muna, Southeast Sulawesi) were planning to fly to Bandung in West Java, onboard Citilink flight number QG982.

crystal methamphetamine airline trafficThe general manager of Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport, Jaya Tahoma Sirait, said that the drug-smuggling attempt had been uncovered after officers had detected a suspicious substance on the body of Slamet during an inspection at airport’s SCP (Security Check Point) I at 8:00 a.m. on Friday.

The man had admitted the packages contained crystal methamphetamine. Security personnel locked down airport areas to prevent the other suspects from fleeing and later arrested 3 other passengers, who had already passed security checks and were waiting for Slamet in the gate's waiting room.

Each of them carried a pair of packages. In total, the security personnel confiscated 2 packages of crystal meth weighing 700g each and 4 weighing 725g each.
