The operations and subsidiaries of Cathay Pacific offer scheduled passenger and cargo services to a total of 180 destinations in 44 different countries worldwide including joint ventures and codeshares. Cathay Pacific has a fleet of wide-body aircraft, which consists of Boeing 747, Boeing 777, Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 equipment. Cathay Dragon, carrier's wholly owned subsidiary, operates to 44 destinations in Asia-Pacific region from its base in Hong Kong. In 2010, Cathay Pacific Airways, along with Dragonair (renamed Cathay Dragon), carried about 27 million passengers and more than 1.8M tons of cargo and mail.

Cathay Pacific Airways was established on September 24, 1946 by American Roy C. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow, with each putting up HK$1 to register the company. The airline made the first non-stop transpolar flight in the world flying over the North Pole July 1998, which was the maiden flight to arrive at the new Hong Kong International Airport. In 2006 Cathay Pacific Airways celebrated its 60th anniversary, and as of October 2009, carrier's major shareholders include Air China and Swire Pacific. Reciprocally, Cathay Pacific is one of the major Air China shareholders. Qatar Airways bought 9.6% shareholding of Cathay Pacific on November 6, 2017 becoming airline's 3rd largest shareholder.

Cathay Pacific Airways

Cathay Pacific Airways is the 10th largest airline in the world in terms of sales, and 14th largest in terms of market capitalisation. In 2010, the company became the largest international cargo airline in the world, along with major hub Hong Kong International Airport as the busiest airport in the world in terms of cargo traffic.

Cathay Pacific is among the founding members of Oneworld alliance. Its subsidiary Cathay Dragon is Oneworld's affiliate member. Cathay Pacific Airways is a globally reputed airline. It won the "World's Best Airline" award 4 times and is consistently ranked among the world's best airlines.

Cathay Pacific Classes

  • First class. Cathay Pacific first-class seats are easily converted into fully lie-flat beds which measure 91 cm × 206 cm (36 in × 81 in). These seats transform into one of the widest fully flat beds available in the sky, with thick mattresses and 500-thread-count cotton duvets, cushions and pillows. The seats feature a massage function, an ottoman for stowage/guest seating, a personal closet, and adjustable 43 cm (17 in) personal televisions (PTV). The large, private working area allows passengers to concentrate while working. In-seat power outlets and USB ports are also offered, along with First Class lounge access, additional baggage allowance and faster check-in.
  • Business class. The new Cathay Pacific Business Class seats emphasise on personal space and are equipped with 39 cm (15.4 in) personal televisions with AVOD. Regional Business Class is available on Cathay Pacific Boeing 777s and selected Airbus A330-300s. Its seats have 53 cm (21 in) width and recline to 120 cm (47 in) of pitch and feature leg rest and electrical recline. 30 cm (12 in) personal televisions located in the seatback offer AVOD. Business Class passengers benefit from priority boarding privileges and Business Class lounge access. All Cathay Pacific Business Class seat adapt to passengers' preferences in flight, with 2 pre-set settings for sleeping and sitting, as well as controls for smaller adjustments.
  • Premium Economy class. Cathay Pacific Premium Economy Class was introduced in March 2012. The seat pitch is 38 inches which is 6 inches more than Economy Class. The seat itself is wider and has a bigger recline. It offers a large meal table, as well as a cocktail table, 10.6-inch personal television, in-seat power outlet, multi-port connector, extra personal stowage space and footrest. The Premium Economy Class seats offer a higher level of comfort via larger living area in a separate cabin before aircraft's Economy Class zone. Passengers also receive "environmentally friendly" amenity kits with dental kits, socks and eyeshade. Noise-cancelling headsets and larger pillows are provided. The Premium Economy cabin is installed on most long-haul aircraft of Cathay Pacific. Upon boarding, Premium Economy class passengers are greeted with a glass of champagne. 
  • Economy class. Cathay Pacific economy class seats feature a 6-inch recline, which is 2 inches over long-haul economy seats. These seats are 44 cm (17.5 in) in width and provide 81 cm (32 in) of pitch. The old Cathay Pacific Economy Class seats onboard aircraft outfitted with refurbished long-haul interiors, were introduced in July 2008 and designed by B/E Aerospace. These seats feature a fixed back design (shell) which allows passengers to recline with no intruding on those who seat behind, a 23 cm (9 in) personal television providing AVOD, AC power behind a larger tray table, coat hook and literature pocket which has been relocated below the seat cushion in order to create more leg room. The previous Cathay Pacific Economy Class seats each have 15 cm (6 in) personal televisions with a choice of 25 channels. The seats are 43 cm (17 in) in width and have 81 cm (32 in) of pitch. They are being replaced with New Economy Class seats onboard aircraft receiving the new long-haul interior configuration of Cathay Pacific.

Baggage 

Carry-on baggage: Each Cathay Pacific passenger is allowed to carry on 1 bag and 1 personal item such as a briefcase or purse. Outer garments and assistive devices don't count as personal items. Carry-on baggage must fit under the seat in front or in the overhead bin and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Max dimensions of carry-on (length x width x height): 56 cm x 36 cm x 23 cm (22 in x 14 in x 9 in)
  • Max weight of carry-on for: Economy Class passengers 7 kg (15 lbs), Business Class passengers 10 kg (22 lbs), First Class passengers 15 kg (33 lbs).

First and Business Class travelers can bring one additional garment/soft bag not more than 20 cm (8 in) thick.

Checked baggage: When traveling to/from North, South or Central America each Cathay Pacific passenger is allowed 2 checked bags, with each bag adhering to the below requirements: max dimensions (length + width + height) 157 cm/62 linear inches and max weight 32 kg/70 lbs.

When traveling to/from any other destination each passenger must adhere to the following requirements: baggage allowance none (two pieces preferred) with max dimensions (length + width + height) 157 cm (62 linear inches) and max weight for Economy Class 20 kg (44 lbs), Business Class 30 kg (66 lbs), First Class 44 kg (88 lbs).

Boarding 

  • Cathay Pacific web check-in allows passengers to check in 24-48 hours prior to the flight departure.
  • Passengers departing from Hong Kong Intl or Chiang Kai-Shek Intl Airport will be able to use CXpress Kiosks to print their boarding pass at the airport, or they'll have to retrieve their boarding pass from carrier's online check-in counter.
  • Club/Asia Miles members and those who have purchased a ticket from Cathay Pacific website have to check-in 90 min-48 hours before their flight is scheduled to depart.
  • Those who have an electronic ticket, are not flying on a codeshare flight, are not special needs passengers, or are not departing out of one of the following locations: Colombo, Bahrain, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Langkawi or Xiamen, have to check-in 90 min-24 hours before their flight is scheduled to depart. 
  • Cathay Pacific Airways recommends passengers arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before their flight is scheduled to depart.
  • Those departing from Hong Hong are required to have their boarding pass at least 45 min before their flight departure time.
  • Passengers departing from Riyadhor North America must have their boarding pass at least 60 min prior to departure.
  • Travelers departing from Dubai must have their boarding pass at least 75 min prior to departure.

Cathay Pacific food and drinks

Food & Drinks

Food and drinks are complimentary on all Cathay Pacific Airways flights, with 2 hot meals served on each long haul flight, along with free alcohol. Food offered on flights out of Hong Kong is provided by CPCS (Cathay Pacific Catering Services) facilities in Hong Kong. The joint venture with LSG Sky Chefs, CLS Catering Services Ltd, provides the inflight catering from Vancouver and Toronto airports; while the joint venture between Vietnam Airlines and CPCS, Vietnam Air Caterers, provides inflight catering for flights out of Ho Chi Minh City.

  • In First Class, passengers can order from an a la carte menu at their convenience throughout the flight. They are able to choose from international or Asian signature dishes, as well as opt for a healthy and light meal, specially designed by celebrity chefs (available on selected routes).
  • In Business Class, Cathay Pacific provides white-cloth table service. Collaborating with chefs of elite restaurants and hotels from around the world, the airline creates menus that suit all palates. Healthy and light meals are also available, along with a selection of award-winning wines. To complement meals, passengers can also experience fine chocolates.
  • A range of authentic Chinese and international dishes are offered in Premium Economy and Economy. The menu selections are regularly updated.
